Martin, a Black male from nearby Crossett, was cut short by an act of violence. The festive day turned into one of mourning and investigation after a startling crash on Chicago Street.
Earlier in the evening, Martin had been visiting with family members at a home located at 407 Chicago Street.
After the visit, he walked back across the street to his own vehicle, which he had parked at 408 Chicago Street. As he began to drive away, the sound of a gunshot shattered the early morning quiet. Martin was struck by the gunfire, and his vehicle, now without a driver in control, continued to roll forward. It came to a stop only after it collided with the very house he had just departed, the home of his relatives.
The collision prompted a call to the Hamburg Police Department at approximately 1:48 AM. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Martin inside the vehicle, already deceased.
