On the evening of Friday, April 26, 2019, a shooting incident occurred at the Union Court apartment complex, leaving the Black teenager critically injured.
Despite medical efforts, Darrell succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Sunday, April 28, 2019. His passing was noted in the National Gun Violence Memorial, a somber testament to a young life lost to gun violence.
In the wake of the shooting, the Maumelle Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male suspect. While the suspect is being charged as an adult with 2nd-degree murder, authorities have not publicly released his name due to his age. The case remains a painful memory for his parents, Alice Marie Givens and Darrell Howard, and his several siblings. There have been no further public reports on the identity of the suspect or the progression of the legal case against him.
