In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 29-year-old Reginald Moore was tragically cut short. On September 17, 2019, just before midnight, police responded to reports of a shooting on Burton Drive. Arriving at the scene, they found Reginald Moore, a Black male, unresponsive in the yard of a residence. He was swiftly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died early the next morning.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing
a physical altercation between Moore and another man just before the gunshots rang out. The initial description of the suspect was of a Black male with a medium build. This information launched an investigation by the Little Rock Police Department that would span several months. Detectives pieced together evidence that included witness testimonies, surveillance footage of a vehicle that matched the suspect's, and cell phone records that placed the suspect near the crime scene at the time of the homicide.
The investigation ultimately led to the identification of 35-year-old Leander Lamont Moore as the primary suspect; the two men were not related. On February 6, 2020, members of the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Leander Moore in Hensley, Arkansas. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by certain persons. A judge set his bond at $2 million. The arrest brought a measure of relief to Reginald Moore's family, who had been waiting for months for a breakthrough in the case. His mother, Jolanda Moore, expressed her gratitude to the law enforcement officers and the community for their support throughout the investigation.
