On June 2, 2020, 36-year-old Lindsey Nicole Downing, a White female from Paragould, Arkansas, was found deceased in her home on Greene County Road 714. A family member discovered her and her husband, 37-year-old James Downing, and alerted the authorities. Investigators with the Greene County Sheriff's Office determined that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
Evidence gathered at the scene indicated that the couple had been involved in a domestic dispute. It was reported that Lindsey was in the process of leaving their residence when James fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and their bodies were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsies.
The investigation concluded that James Downing was the perpetrator in the murder of his wife, Lindsey. Due to his death, no arrests were made, and no charges could be filed in the case. The case was set to be forwarded to prosecutors for review.
Lindsey was remembered as a devoted mother to her two daughters. She was a member of the Southside Community Church and was described by friends as having a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room. A benefit account was established for her daughters in the wake of the tragedy.
