On the evening of December 26, 2020, a 36-year-old Black / African American man named Brandon Simpson was fatally shot in Little Rock, Arkansas. The incident unfolded as Simpson and his wife were driving to a store. While on the road, they encountered a vehicle that began following them closely. In an attempt to lose the tailing car, Simpson made a series of turns, but the other vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Impala, persisted in its pursuit.
The situation escalated when the Impala pulled
up alongside the Simpsons' car at a stop sign. A verbal altercation ensued between Simpson and the driver of the other vehicle. During this exchange, the driver of the Impala fired a gun, striking Simpson. Despite his injuries, Simpson managed to drive a short distance before succumbing to the gunshot wound. His wife was present in the car with him at the time of the shooting.
Law enforcement officials later identified Scott Severance as the individual responsible for Brandon Simpson's death. Following an investigation into the shooting, Severance was arrested and subsequently charged with murder.
