On May 28, 2021, 36-year-old Amber Sue Belcher Dunigan was found deceased in her car along Arkansas Highway 16, near Fayetteville. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Her husband, Jason Ross Dunigan, initially reported her missing and later discovered her body. Investigators soon identified him as a suspect in her death.
Further investigation revealed that Amber held a $300,000 life insurance policy, with Jason and their son as beneficiaries.
Authorities believe Jason murdered his wife to collect the insurance money. A small piece of neon green fabric found near Amber's head wound was consistent with the fabric of Jason's work shirt, suggesting it was used to muffle the sound of the gunshot.
In February 2022, Jason Dunigan was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with his wife's death. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. As of January 2023, his trial was scheduled to begin on April 25, 2023.
Amber Dunigan was a 2002 graduate of Carlisle High School in Arkansas and later managed two Supercuts locations. She was known for her dedication, honesty, and positive attitude, making her a beloved figure among colleagues and clients.
