Vismar Franklin Coyoy Ramirez, a 27-year-old male, tragically lost his life on December 31, 2022, in a rural area of Saline County, Arkansas. Originally from San Antonio Sacatepéquez, San Marcos, Guatemala, he had moved to the United States in 2016. He was a dedicated roofer, working at a job site on Narrows Road near Benton on the day of the incident.
The circumstances surrounding his death point to a hunting accident. While at work, Vismar was fatally shot.
The investigation that followed led authorities to a suspect in the case. With assistance from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, investigators were able to identify and apprehend an individual in connection with the shooting.
On January 10, 2023, William Bettis, a 52-year-old man from Lonsdale, was arrested. He faced multiple charges, including manslaughter and hunting endangerment resulting in death. Additional charges were filed for violations related to hunting licenses and education requirements. Following his arrest, Bettis was booked into the Saline County Detention Center. He was later released on a $25,000 bond to await further legal proceedings. The case was then handed over to the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney for formal charging and prosecution.
