On September 18, 1983, 18-year-old Karlena Jean Tolston, who was seven months pregnant, was found murdered near 26th and Jefferson Streets in Omaha, Nebraska. A neighbor discovered her body in a park; she had been shot, sexually assaulted, and her unborn son had been forcibly removed. The brutality of the crime shocked the local community and left her family devastated.
