In the line of duty, Correctional Officer Gabriel B. Saucedo, a 36-year-old Hispanic male, lost his life in Safford, Arizona. On June 2, 2005, while on perimeter patrol alone in his vehicle at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Safford, his 9mm Glock service pistol accidentally discharged.
The single round passed through his hand and struck him in the leg, resulting in massive bleeding. He was quickly flown to a local hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead during surgery.
