On a tragic Father's Day in 2009, three-year-old Teigan Amiah Brown-Peters was found deceased in the area of Jacob Lake, Arizona. The young female's life was cut short on June 21, 2009, in a devastating series of events that stemmed from domestic turmoil. Her parents, Tisha Brown and Ryan Peters, had separated in 2007, leading to a period of harassment and tension.
In the days leading up to the tragic discovery, Ryan Peters had failed to return his daughter to her mother as required by their custody agreement. This prompted Tisha Brown to file a custodial interference complaint with the Gilbert Police Department on June 19, 2009. Family members of Ryan grew concerned on Father's Day when they were unable to contact him, fearing he was despondent and possibly suicidal following his divorce and the loss of custody.
Through communications with a family member, it was learned that Ryan had taken Teigan camping somewhere between Jacob Lake and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The Mesa Police Department was alerted to the situation. Early in the morning on June 22, 2009, a Coconino County Sheriff's deputy discovered the campsite near Parissawampitts Point. Both Teigan and her father, Ryan Peters, were found at the scene, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation by the Coconino County Sheriff's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Authorities determined that Ryan Peters had fatally shot his young daughter before taking his own life. No other suspects were sought in connection with the deaths.
