On a tragic day in Phoenix, Arizona, 83-year-old Marie Pendergast was killed in her home on March 15, 1992. Her death was part of a violent rampage carried out by Pete Carl Rogovich, which resulted in multiple fatalities throughout the day.
The events began to unfold when Rogovich fatally shot a convenience store clerk near his apartment. Later that day, he entered the Palo Verde Mobile Manor trailer park.
It was there that he came upon Marie Pendergast in her residence and shot her twice in the abdomen, leading to her death from significant blood loss. Rogovich's violent spree did not end there; he also took the lives of two other residents in the same mobile home park, 62-year-old Phyllis Mancuso and 48-year-old Rebecca Carreon.
Following the murders at the trailer park, Rogovich continued his crime wave by carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint and then committing an armed robbery at another convenience store. His string of violent acts came to an end after a high-speed chase with law enforcement, which resulted in his apprehension.
Once in custody, Pete Carl Rogovich confessed to the killings. He was subsequently charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder. The legal proceedings found him guilty, and he was sentenced to death for his crimes. His conviction and sentence have been upheld through various appeals, and he remains on death row in Arizona.
