In early December of 2024, the city of Milwaukee was shaken by the grim discovery of 40-year-old Myeshia Moore, a Black / African American female. On the morning of December 2nd, her body was found inside a garbage cart in an alley behind Bethany Lutheran Church, near the intersection of North 38th and West Lloyd Street. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Moore had sustained fatal gunshot injuries, ruling her death a homicide.
The callous nature of her death left the local community feeling uneasy and disturbed by the violence that had unfolded so close to home.
For weeks, the investigation into Myeshia Moore’s death continued, with her family pleading for justice. Loved ones, including her aunt in Texas and a cousin in California, remembered her as a free-spirited and loving person who had lived in Milwaukee for two decades. Her mother had passed away just months before in October. The family was devastated by the manner in which she was found, expressing their profound grief and the hope that those responsible would be brought to justice.
In January 2025, a significant development emerged in the case with the arrest of 57-year-old Johnny Williams. He was subsequently charged with first-degree intentional homicide and use of a dangerous weapon in connection with Moore's death. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance footage captured Williams with Moore before he was seen wheeling the garbage cart into the alley. Prosecutors stated that Williams admitted to moving Moore's body in the cart but claimed he did so with another person who he did not identify. The investigation also revealed that an attempt was made to set the garbage cart on fire after it was left in the alley. While Williams’ arrest brought a measure of hope to Moore’s family, authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to seek a potential second suspect involved in this tragic case.
