The incident occurred around 8:07 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 330 block of McDonald Street. Witnesses reported that Christopher approached a dark gray Dodge Ram pickup truck parked at the complex and exchanged gunfire with a 20-year-old male passenger inside the vehicle. Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds. The Dodge Ram, driven by 21-year-old Josue Mejia, transported the injured 20-year-old male and 18-year-old Christopher Perez to Medical City McKinney, where both victims succumbed to their injuries. Christopher was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Following the shooting, McKinney police arrested two suspects in connection with the incident. Christopher Perez, 18, and Josue Mejia, 21, both from Princeton, Texas, were apprehended and charged with murder. Mejia led officers on a pursuit that ended at a car dealership in Richardson, where he attempted to flee on foot but was captured after a brief chase. Both suspects were booked into the Collin County Detention Facility.
