In the early morning hours of December 14, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Dawson Nathanial Mohl, a White male, was tragically cut short. The incident occurred inside a residence located at 1331 Hex Highway in Tilden Township, a community near Hamburg, Pennsylvania. State Police troopers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at approximately 12:18 a.m. and upon arrival, they discovered Dawson had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate efforts of the responding officers to provide life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Remembered as a compassionate and adventurous young man, Dawson was a resident of nearby Leesport. He was building a career as an apprentice at UGI in Frackville with the goal of becoming a journeyman. An Eagle Scout, he had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, fishing, and hunting. During his time at Schuylkill Valley High School, he was a dedicated member of the swim team and continued his athletic pursuits at Shippensburg University. Those who knew him recall a humble, loyal, and gentle soul with a quick wit, who was always ready with a joke or a kind word.
The Pennsylvania State Police from the Hamburg station are leading the investigation into Dawson's death, which has been classified as a negligent homicide. Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence where the shooting took place and have collected evidence as part of their ongoing inquiry. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public to bring clarity and justice to the untimely death of Dawson Mohl.
