On the evening of Christmas Eve in 2024, a tragic event unfolded in the parking lot of a Sheetz convenience store in Manchester, Pennsylvania. A 23-year-old man named Tivory Bartlett, from Douglassville, was fatally shot in what police have described as a targeted attack. The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. in the 4300 block of North George Street Extension. Bartlett was discovered in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the York County Regional Police utilized witness statements and video surveillance to piece together a timeline of the events leading up to the shooting. According to their findings, Bartlett arrived at the parking lot and backed into a parking space at 5:01 p.m. A few minutes later, a Hyundai sedan carrying two individuals, later identified as 19-year-old Ajanii Lemar Barnes and 25-year-old Tajai Markeise Robert Scott, parked next to Bartlett's car. Scott then exited the Hyundai and entered the front passenger seat of Bartlett's vehicle, followed by Barnes who entered the rear passenger seat.
At approximately 5:09 p.m., Bartlett's car accelerated suddenly, striking a parked vehicle. It was at this moment that Scott allegedly shot Bartlett multiple times. Following the gunshots, Barnes fled from the rear of Bartlett's car and ran towards the back of the Sheetz. Scott was then seen climbing out of the broken passenger window of Bartlett's car with a handgun, getting into the Hyundai, and driving to the back of the convenience store to pick up Barnes before they both fled the scene.
The investigation into Tivory Bartlett's death led to the identification of Barnes and Scott as the primary suspects. In May of 2025, both men were charged with criminal homicide. The search for the suspects extended across the country, and in June 2025, Tajai Scott was apprehended in California by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The following month, in July 2025, Ajanii Barnes was captured at a home in York, Pennsylvania, by the Pennsylvania State Police with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. In addition to homicide, Barnes also faces charges of felony conspiracy to commit murder and felony robbery.
