On December 16, 2024, 38-year-old John Upshaw was found deceased at a gas station in west Toledo, Ohio. Initial reports from the Toledo Police Department indicated that Upshaw's death was the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In the days following the incident, the community expressed grief over Upshaw's passing. A memorial page dedicated to him received numerous tributes, with 81 candles lit in his honor.
As of December 28, 2024, there have been no reports of arrests or identification of suspects related to Upshaw's death. The case is currently being treated as a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.
