On November 25, 2024, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Greensboro police responded to a report of a body found near Yanceyville Road, close to Kingfisher Trail. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 18-year-old Samad T. Johnson Jr., who had suffered at least one gunshot wound. His body was located down an embankment off the side of the road.
Samad's family and friends are deeply mourning his loss.
They describe him as a funny, lovable, and kind soul with a passion for music, who brought joy to those around him. In his honor, several family members gathered at the site where his body was found to release balloons and call for justice. His aunt, Jeanelle Williams, expressed her devastation, stating, "I was hurt, I was crushed. I couldn't believe it." The family is determined to ensure that his death does not go unanswered.
As of now, Greensboro police have not released any information regarding suspects or arrests in connection with Samad's death. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. This incident marks the 40th homicide in Greensboro for the year, a significant decrease from the 67 homicides reported at the same time last year.
A memorial service for Samad T. Johnson II is scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Community Funeral Home Chapel in Greensboro.
The community remains hopeful that those responsible for this tragic loss will be brought to justice, and they continue to support Samad's family during this difficult time.
