On December 3, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Henderson Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 800 block of Vance Street in Henderson, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Ja’neta Teiona Wynn suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to Maria Parham Health, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a physical altercation involving multiple individuals, including Wynn and 40-year-old Henderson resident, Shamiar Carter. During the dispute, Carter allegedly discharged a firearm, striking Wynn. Carter remained at the scene and was taken into custody by law enforcement. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered, along with other pertinent evidence.
Carter has been charged with felony murder in connection with Wynn's death and is currently held at the Vance County Detention Facility without bond. She graduated from Vance Academy in 2018 and worked as a Personal Care Assistant at Alpha Magnolia Health in Warrenton, NC. Known for her infectious laughter and compassionate nature, Wynn's untimely passing has left a profound void among her family, friends, and the wider community.
