On December 1, 2024, Omaha police responded to a call at Bailey Pointe Assisted Living, located near 119th Street and Miracle Hills Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals, 88-year-old Douglas Van Horn and his wife, 86-year-old Evelyn Van Horn, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside their apartment. Investigators believe that Douglas fatally shot Evelyn before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide.
