In the small, unincorporated community of Prairie, Mississippi, a late-night shooting shattered the quiet of a December evening, leaving a local family grieving and a community in shock. Myron Rowe, a 36-year-old man, was fatally shot at his home on Wilson Hill Loop on the night of Sunday, December 1, 2024. Monroe County sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting multiple gunshots just after 10 p.m. and discovered Rowe had died from a gunshot wound.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the state medical examiner's office to confirm the details of his death.
Myron Octavis Rowe was born on May 30, 1988, in Amory, Mississippi. He was a skilled carpenter known for his dedication and artistry. He is survived by his parents, two sons, a brother, and three sisters. His family and friends gathered for a visitation on December 13, followed by a celebration of his life the next day at Zion Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Okolona.
The investigation into Rowe's death quickly led to the arrest of four teenagers from West Point. The two adult suspects were identified as 18-year-old Cameron Walker and 19-year-old Demarcus Randle. The other two suspects are a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old whose names were not released. All four have been charged with murder.
Investigators believe the four suspects entered Rowe's trailer home, and Walker is accused of being the one who shot Rowe. Another person inside the house returned fire, wounding Walker. Walker was arrested on December 9 after being released from a hospital in West Point. The other suspects were also taken into custody by West Point police. While a motive for the shooting has not yet been determined by investigators, Walker's bond was set at $250,000.
