In a tragic turn of events on November 30, 2024, Antwan Small, a 49-year-old Black male, was shot and killed in Port Wentworth, Georgia. The incident unfolded on Saussy Road, in a residential area, where Small was pronounced dead at the scene from at least one gunshot wound. The fatal encounter occurred at his grandmother's home, shockingly witnessed by both his grandmother and his own six-year-old daughter.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting point to a personal dispute. Small was engaged in a custody exchange involving his daughter with his ex-wife at the time. It was during this exchange that his ex-wife's boyfriend, 47-year-old Frederic Green, allegedly arrived at the scene and shot Small. Following the shooting, Green fled, sparking a multi-state search.
The manhunt for Green concluded the very next day, on December 1, 2024, in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, over 800 miles away. His capture was not without drama, as he led local law enforcement on a brief but high-speed pursuit before being taken into custody. He was subsequently held at the St. Charles County Department of Corrections, awaiting extradition back to Georgia to face charges.
Frederic Green was later indicted on serious charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In a deeply ironic twist, Green had been publicly involved in anti-gun violence initiatives in Savannah. He had served as a support and outreach coordinator for the city's anti-gun violence program and was the founder of a nonprofit organization called 'Filling the Gaps Outreach,' which aimed to provide community services. As of August 2025, Green was seeking release on bond while his case proceeds, with a judge yet to make a final decision. The Port Wentworth Police Department has continued its investigation into the circumstances of Small's death.
