On December 18, 2024, at approximately 4:14 a.m., officers from the Orlando Police Department responded to a reported suspicious incident at the Avalyn West Apartments on Ivey Lane in Orlando, Florida. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of 46-year-old Jerome Thomas, who had suffered fatal injuries.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 50-year-old Carleton D. Sealey as a suspect in Thomas's death.
Sealey was arrested on December 21, 2024, and is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder with a firearm, home invasion robbery, burglary of a dwelling with assault/battery with a firearm, and fraudulent use of credit cards exceeding $100. He is currently being held at the Orange County Jail.
Jerome Alexander "Manute" Thomas was born on November 28, 1978, and was a lifelong resident of Orlando. He attended Dr. Phillips High School, where he played basketball, and was employed at a warehouse prior to his passing. Thomas was known for his love of family, fishing, football, and barbecuing. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jean Thomas, and his two daughters, Jada and Ma’Kynlee Thomas.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Thomas's death is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the motive or events leading up to the incident. Community members and family continue to mourn the loss of Thomas, remembering him as a "gentle giant" who was deeply loved by those who knew him.
