The investigation into
Devin Moore's death revealed that the shooting was connected to a drug transaction gone wrong. Darren Bocker, a 24-year-old man from Orlando, and his younger brother, Tyrik Bocker, were implicated in the crime. According to investigators, Darren Bocker had coordinated a meet-up with Devin Moore for a drug deal involving marijuana and cash. During the transaction, Tyrik Bocker and another accomplice attempted to rob Devin Moore at gunpoint. When Moore resisted, he was shot in the head by one of the assailants. Tyrik Bocker then fled the scene with a backpack containing marijuana and approximately $1,000.
The case remained unsolved for several years until it was reopened in May 2020 by Detective William Pappas. A trail of phone records and eyewitness testimonies led to the arrest of Darren Bocker in October 2020. He was charged with first-degree felony murder and conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm. Tyrik Bocker, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, was also charged in connection with the homicide. Both brothers were held without bail at the Orange County Jail.
Despite the arrests of the Bocker brothers, the investigation faced challenges. It was unclear if the third accomplice, identified as the shooter, had been apprehended or charged.
