On December 1, 2024, 18-year-old Christopher Perez was fatally shot at Ledbetter Park in Cutler, California. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m., when Perez was at the park with a 14-year-old companion. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Tulare County Sheriff's Office swiftly initiated an investigation, identifying two suspects: 19-year-old Christopher Talingo and a 15-year-old male, both residents of Cu
tler. On December 4, 2024, deputies attempted to contact the juvenile suspect at his residence; he attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. Later that day, the Sheriff's SWAT team arrested Talingo at his home without incident. Both suspects have been charged with homicide, attempted homicide—pertaining to the 14-year-old who was with Perez—and conspiracy.
Christopher Perez was born on September 20, 2006, and is survived by his parents, Grizelda Flores Bernardino and Fredy Perez Garcia, as well as his siblings, Fredy, Kimberly, and Fatima Perez. A visitation was held on December 18, 2024, at Dopkins Funeral Chapel in Dinuba, California, followed by a rosary service. A mass took place on December 19, 2024, at Saint Isidore the Farmer Church in Orange Cove, California.
