On January 25, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Temple Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3800 block of South 31st Street in Temple, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Michael Powell suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries on January 26, 2023.
In the course of their investigation, authorities identified 30-year-old Donovan Alsum of Killeen as the primary suspect in the shooting. Law enforcement officials arrested Alsum at his residence without incident prior to Powell's passing. Following Powell's death, the case was reclassified as a homicide, marking Temple's first murder of 2023.
Michael Powell was born on September 23, 1996, to parents George Donovan and Michael-Ann Powell. He graduated from Richard Milburn Academy in May 2014. Known for his love of "The Office" memorabilia, coin collecting, and a diverse taste in music ranging from Frank Sinatra to the "Grease" soundtrack, Michael was deeply cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, sister Kaitlynn Bailey, brother Serafino Donovan, son Marcello Rae, stepdaughter Ella Caines, and their mother, Olivia Padin.
