On January 30, 2023, at approximately 11:08 p.m., the Littlefield Police Department responded to a call regarding an unresponsive individual at a residence on Cole Street in Littlefield, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered 30-year-old Edward Jimenez Jr. deceased from a gunshot wound. In addition to the homicide, Jimenez's vehicle was reported stolen; it was located abandoned the following day by Littlefield police.
A joint investigation was launched by the Littlefield Police Department and the Texas Rangers' Company C. Through their efforts, Edwin Gutierrez, a 17-year-old resident of Littlefield, was identified as a suspect. On May 3, 2023, Gutierrez was interviewed by authorities, after which he was arrested and charged with the murder of Edward Jimenez Jr. He was subsequently booked into the Lamb County Jail, where he remains held on a $750,000 bond.
The tragic death of Edward Jimenez Jr. deeply affected the Littlefield community. Born on June 23, 1992, in Del Rio, Texas, Jimenez was known for his adventurous spirit and love for family and friends. He graduated from Littlefield High School in 2011 and was remembered as a jokester who enjoyed playing video games, watching Netflix, and cruising in his car listening to music. He was a devoted family man, survived by his wife, Jessica Ramirez, and their three children: Jusiah, Jenna, and Jazlyn. His funeral services were held on February 7, 2023, at Grace Chapel in Littlefield.
