Byron T. McKinney, a 24-year-old resident of Chicago, was killed on April 7, 2017, in a drive-by shooting in the Austin neighborhood, located on the city's West Side. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Central Avenue and West Corcoran Place. McKinney was one of six people struck by gunfire during the incident, but he was the only fatality.
