On November 9, 1998, the body of Michael Tan, a 27-year-old Asian American male, was discovered in a ditch on the outskirts of North Parkside Drive in Pittsburg, California. He had been beaten and then drowned approximately six hours before his body was found. Tan was a resident of Concord, California, and according to those who knew him, he had no known personal ties to the city of Pittsburg.
