Nels Daniel "Dan" Niemi, a 42-year-old police officer with the San Leandro Police Department, tragically lost his life on July 25, 2005. Officer Niemi was responding to a disturbance call on Doolittle Drive around 11:00 PM. This was his second visit to the location that day. While speaking with some residents, a man drove up and engaged Officer Niemi in conversation.
