On March 25, 2023, 31-year-old Darrion R. Hurst was fatally shot outside a convenience store in the 9600 block of Scyene Road in Dallas, Texas. Surveillance footage shows Hurst conversing with a friend near the store's entrance around 9 p.m. An unidentified individual approached, seemingly exchanged brief words, and then, without warning, fired multiple shots at Hurst before calmly walking away.
The suspect is described as a Black male wearing a Dallas Cowboys hoodie, with the hood up and hands in the front pockets. Notably, the assailant fired the weapon from within the hoodie pocket, never removing his hands during the attack. After the shooting, he turned and left the scene on foot.
Despite the clarity of the surveillance video and multiple appeals for public assistance, the case remains unsolved. In March 2024, Dallas Police revisited the case, releasing the footage again in hopes of generating new leads. Detective Jacob White, leading the investigation, emphasized that Hurst appeared to be an innocent victim, merely socializing with a friend when the incident occurred.
Hurst's family continues to seek justice. His mother, Serita Roberts, described him as a loving father and brother with a generous heart. She has publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward, highlighting the profound impact his death has had on their family and the community.
