On March 27, 2023, 30-year-old Donald Townsend was fatally shot during a confrontation at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Lombrano Street on San Antonio's West Side. Responding officers found Townsend with a gunshot wound to the chest; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Townsend, originally from Harvey, Louisiana, had relocated to San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate of Helen Cox High School and Delgado Community College, where he earned a certificate in welding.
At the time of his death, he was employed as a coach at Essence Public School. He is survived by his spouse, Keriyon Algere, and his children: Donald Jr., Ky'mani, Zy'onn, Zakari L. Townsend, and Dy'rione Algere.
In the aftermath of the incident, two men and two women were taken in for questioning; however, no arrests were made at that time. As of December 27, 2024, there have been no publicly reported updates regarding arrests or identification of suspects in connection with Townsend's death.
On April 7, 2023, which would have been Townsend's 31st birthday, friends and family gathered at Copernicus Park for a balloon release to honor his memory. Mourners remembered him as a beloved individual who had a positive impact on those who knew him.
