On the evening of April 11, 2023, in Copperas Cove, Texas, 27-year-old resident Keelan River Harrelson was involved in a fatal incident following a police pursuit. The sequence of events began around 9:47 p.m. when local police received reports of a reckless driver swerving across East Business Highway 190. Officers located Harrelson's vehicle in the 800 block of the highway and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, Harrelson exhibited signs of intoxication and emotional distress.
Despite the officers' attempts to manage the situation, Harrelson fled the scene, leading police on an eastbound pursuit along Business Highway 190. The officers temporarily lost sight of his vehicle but soon discovered it had crashed in the 3000 block of East Business Highway 190. Upon reaching the crash site, they found Harrelson unresponsive, having sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Coryell County Justice of the Peace Bill Price pronounced him dead at the scene.
Harrelson's death was officially ruled a suicide, and no suspects were sought in connection with the incident. A 2014 graduate of Copperas Cove High School, he was employed at Texas Tire in Killeen at the time of his passing. He is survived by his mother, two sons, and other family members who mourn his loss.
