On April 25, 2023, 46-year-old Kimberly Lewis, a mother of three from Katy, Texas, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting at her residence on Winchester Ranch Trail. The following morning, her 19-year-old son discovered her lifeless body in her bedroom and alerted authorities. Lewis's two 11-year-old twin sons were also present in the home during the incident but were unharmed.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and observed a dark-colored vehicle speeding away from the scene around 11 p.m. on the night of the shooting. Investigators found multiple shell casings outside the home, indicating that shots were fired from the street into an upstairs bedroom where Lewis was found.
In July 2023, authorities arrested 19-year-old Giovanni Medrano in connection with Lewis's death. Medrano confessed to the shooting, stating that his intention was to scare Lewis's 19-year-old son, whom he claimed had bullied him since the ninth grade. According to court documents, Medrano and a 16-year-old accomplice drove to the Lewis residence in a red Chevrolet Silverado truck. Medrano exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots into the home before fleeing the scene.
The 16-year-old driver later told investigators that he did not initially report the incident because Medrano and another individual had threatened to harm him and his family if he spoke out. Medrano was charged with murder and held on a $500,000 bond. At the time of the shooting, he was reportedly on deferred adjudication for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Authorities have identified a second suspect involved in the case and are seeking to file additional charges.
