On May 7, 2023, 16-year-old Jamilyn C'Mon Darby was tragically shot in the head while at a residence in the 19700 block of Redwood Manor Lane in Cypress, Texas. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m., when her 14-year-old cousin was reportedly handling a handgun that discharged, striking Jamilyn. Another boy present in the room witnessed the shooting.
