On May 8, 2023, at approximately 10 a.m., 42-year-old Samuel Murrell was fatally shot in his residence on Mitchell Street in Wells, Texas. Emergency responders from the Wells Fire Department and EMS arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Murrell was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wells Police Department, led by Chief Harold Rapsilver, was first to respond and detained 56-year-old suspect, Noal Price. Price was subsequently arrested and charged with murder by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. He was booked into the Cherokee County Jail.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Funeral services for Murrell were held on May 20, 2023, at New Zion Temple in Lufkin, Texas, with burial following at Davis Memorial Garden.
The community of Wells remains in mourning as the investigation proceeds, seeking answers to the tragic loss of a resident.
