On June 11, 2023, in Northeast El Paso, Texas, 55-year-old Deborah Jean Pyzewski Sheeran was tragically found deceased in her home. Family members, concerned after not hearing from her for three days, requested a welfare check, leading police to discover her body.
Investigations revealed that Deborah had been fatally shot by her husband, 58-year-old Eric Sheeran, who subsequently took his own life. The couple had been married since 1996.
During the investigation, authorities found an object resembling a grenade in the home; however, the El Paso Bomb Squad determined it was not an explosive device.
Deborah's passing was deeply mourned by her family and friends. A visitation and prayer service were held on June 23, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast in El Paso, where loved ones paid their respects and shared memories of her caring and cheerful nature.
This tragic incident highlights the pervasive issue of domestic violence. In response to such cases, the El Paso District Attorney's Office announced in October 2024 the revival of a specialized Domestic Violence Unit to address and prosecute domestic violence cases more effectively, aiming to prevent future tragedies in the community.
