On August 4, 2023, the body of 24-year-old Desiree Zaria Fisher was discovered in a field near Southcross Ranch Road and Side Saddle Drive in San Antonio, Texas. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and shell casings were found nearby. Fisher's body appeared to have been at the location for an extended period before being found.
In the days following the discovery, Fisher's family expressed profound grief and a desperate need for answers.
They described her as a loving, funny, and caring individual with a huge heart. Fisher was pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice with aspirations of becoming a detective. Her family offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward.
The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals. On October 4, 2023, police apprehended 20-year-old Calaseo Merci Brown, charging him with Fisher's murder. Witnesses reported hearing Brown express intentions to harm Fisher prior to the incident, and surveillance footage, along with GPS data, placed him at the crime scene. It was believed that Brown and Fisher were in a romantic relationship.
Subsequently, on November 7, 2023, two additional suspects were arrested: 17-year-old Zephaniah Cleaver and 18-year-old Demarcus Whitley. Affidavits indicated that both were present during the shooting. Brown alleged that Whitley, seated behind Fisher in her vehicle, shot her in the head before she was further shot by others. Cleaver was implicated in facilitating the shooting, with investigators uncovering incriminating messages linking him to the crime.
All three suspects have been charged with murder and are held in the Bexar County Jail. The motive behind Fisher's killing remains unclear, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
