On the evening of October 23, 2023, at approximately 9:59 p.m., Denton police officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 1600 block of East McKinney Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Daniel Joseph Ryan suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Officers administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, after which Ryan was transported to a local hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
The suspect, an unidentified male, remained at the scene and was detained by law enforcement. He is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. Detectives have indicated that there is no known prior relationship between Ryan and the suspect. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is ongoing.

Daniel Ryan was born on August 3, 2000, to Michael Lee Ryan and Tanya Rochelle Johnson-Ryan. He is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Annie Knoedler; grandfathers, Arthur Ray Johnson and Bob Knoedler; his siblings, Naomi, Shy’an, Teeonna, Maddison, Isabella, and Michael; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and other family members. Daniel was an active member of Calvary church, known for his joyful demeanor and his motto, "Dream Big Dreams." He was deeply loved by his church community and family, remembered for his willingness to help others and his unwavering faith.
Funeral services were held at Calvary UPC in Denton, Texas, with a viewing on November 2, 2023, and the service on November 3, 2023. Daniel's passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, and his memory continues to be cherished by his family, friends, and the broader community.
