On November 7, 2023, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting incident at a residence located at 4334 Spring Valley Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Rudy Muñoz Yanez unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical assistance provided by a witness and continued efforts by the officers, Yanez was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect was known to the victim. Authorities identified 43-year-old Timothy Andrew Griffin, a lifelong friend and business associate of Yanez, as the primary suspect. The motive for the shooting is believed to be a financial dispute between the two men. Following the incident, Griffin fled the scene accompanied by an unidentified Black male in his 2013 Toyota Corolla.
On November 13, 2023, law enforcement officials apprehended Griffin, who has since been charged with murder in the 176th State District Court. The unidentified male accomplice remains at large. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding this individual or additional details about the case to contact the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
In the wake of Yanez's tragic death, his family and friends have expressed their grief and called for justice. A funeral service was held on November 11, 2023, at Sugar Land Mortuary in Sugar Land, Texas, where loved ones gathered to honor his memory. Yanez is survived by his two sons, brothers, grandparents, and numerous other relatives and friends who remember him as a devoted father and cherished companion.
