Marco Ramirez, a 24-year-old Hispanic man, was a caring and loving brother and a devoted son. His sister, Carla, said he was never selfish and had been helping her, a single mother, raise her children. He was also his father’s “right hand” in the family’s remodeling business, working alongside him ever since he was old enough to walk.
In the pre-dawn hours of November 14, 2023, the family’s life was shattered.
Around 4 a.m., Carla Ramirez was awakened by a barking dog and looked outside her East Dallas home to see several people stealing her father’s red Chevrolet pickup truck. She immediately got into her own truck and began to follow them, with Marco close behind in his vehicle. While in pursuit, Carla was on the phone with her brother, coordinating a plan to block the thieves.
The chase ended a few blocks away in the 5300 block of Parry Avenue. The siblings confronted the suspects, and Carla used her truck to hit their vehicle. The thieves abandoned the stolen pickup and an exchange of gunfire erupted. During the shootout, Marco was struck by a bullet. His sister witnessed the shooting and held him in her arms as he lay unresponsive. Emergency responders took Marco to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Dallas police launched a homicide investigation, recovering the family's stolen truck a block from the scene of the shooting. Investigators processed the vehicle for evidence and discovered fingerprints on the front hood that matched a name in their database.
Just three days later, on November 17, 2023, police arrested 30-year-old Alejandro Deleon in connection with the murder. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and charged with murder, with his bond set at $750,000.
As of November 2023, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are still searching for three other suspects believed to be involved in the incident: two men and one woman.
