Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Michael Everett Jr. suffering from a severe gunshot wound. Everett was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on November 17, 2023.
In the initial aftermath of the shooting, authorities had not identified any suspects and urged the public to provide information that could assist in the investigation. This incident marked the eleventh homicide in Waco for the year 2023.
Approximately a year later, on November 25, 2024, Waco Police announced the arrest of 23-year-old Demerrion Crayton in connection with Everett's murder. Crayton was already in custody at the McLennan County Jail on unrelated charges when he was served with the murder warrant.
