On November 22, 2023, in Rendon, Texas, 60-year-old Shari Bailey and her 84-year-old mother, Bertha Bailey, were fatally shot in their home on Joalene Court. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office identified Shari's daughter, 25-year-old Kaitlyn Marie Bailey, as the primary suspect. A manhunt ensued, and she was apprehended on November 24, 2023. Kaitlyn was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with her bond set at $200,000.
Investigations revealed that during a robbery attempt, Kaitlyn demanded money from her mother. When Shari refused, Kaitlyn used Shari's Glock handgun to shoot her mother and grandmother multiple times before fleeing in a stolen vehicle. Kaitlyn Bailey had a documented history of domestic violence. In 2016, she pleaded guilty to assaulting a family member, and in 2021, she pleaded guilty to strangling her mother, Shari. In February 2024, a Tarrant County grand jury indicted Kaitlyn Bailey on capital murder charges, citing the multiple killings during the same criminal transaction and the attempted robbery. She remains in custody at the Tarrant County Jail, with her bond increased to $600,000.
