On January 1, 2024, 19-year-old Naomi Riley Davis was found fatally shot in a southeast Austin apartment, marking the city's first homicide of the year. Austin Police Department officers responded to multiple calls reporting a shooting at approximately 8:49 p.m. at the 4900 block of East Oltorf Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Davis unresponsive with a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
