Upon arrival, they discovered that 27-year-old Randy Mota-Bastida and another man had been shot following an altercation. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Mota-Bastida succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was reported to be in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mota-Bastida had been involved in a physical confrontation with the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jonathan Gutierrez.
