On February 14, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., 17-year-old Jayden Polk, a student at Jacksonville High School, was fatally shot on Ballew Lane, near County Road 1804 in the Maydelle area of Cherokee County, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies found Polk with a gunshot wound; he was transported to a Jacksonville hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
