Corrections Officer Joseph F. "Joe" Wilkerson, aged 51, was fatally shot on April 23, 1906, in Rusk, Texas. He was a member of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Correctional Institutions Division. The incident occurred when a train transporting 149 convicts and 24 guards from the prison in Rusk was uncoupled by one of the convicts.
