On March 16, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Dallas police officers responded to a welfare check in the 1700 block of Mentor Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Christopher Hawkins lying unresponsive outside a residence, having sustained a gunshot wound. Despite prompt medical attention from Dallas Fire-Rescue, Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the discovery, the Dallas Police Department's SWAT Unit executed a search warrant at the home associated wit
h the incident. However, no individuals were found inside the premises. The investigation into Hawkins' death was immediately initiated, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in identifying potential suspects or motives.
Approximately two weeks later, on March 28, 2024, Dallas police arrested 31-year-old Kenneth Horton in connection with the shooting. Horton was charged with murder for his alleged involvement in Hawkins' death. Details regarding the relationship between Hawkins and Horton, as well as the motive behind the shooting, have not been publicly disclosed.
The arrest of Horton marked a significant development in the case, providing some measure of closure to the community and Hawkins' family.
