On April 21, 2024, 19-year-old Daniel Olalde Moreno was fatally shot during a prom afterparty in Fort Worth, Texas. The event, intended as a small gathering for Arlington Heights High School students, escalated when the address was shared on social media, attracting approximately 300 attendees. A dispute over a dice game among uninvited guests led to gunfire in the 3900 block of Singleleaf Lane.
Following the shooting, all three victims were transported to hospitals by private vehicles. Two individuals arrived at John Peter Smith Hospital around 1:15 a.m. in stable condition. Moreno reached Harris Southwest Hospital at approximately 2:15 a.m. in critical condition and was later airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In the subsequent investigation, Fort Worth police arrested three suspects on murder charges. Jerome Gray, 17, was apprehended on May 14, 2024. The following day, authorities arrested 19-year-old Kaiis Williams and 18-year-old Tahv’yown Williams. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived, and the arrests were made after thorough investigations.
The tragic incident has deeply affected the Fort Worth community, highlighting the dangers of large, unregulated gatherings and the potential for violence when events are publicized on social media. Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots and witnessing chaotic scenes as attendees fled. The homeowner, whose son hosted the party, expressed shock at the unexpected turnout and the ensuing violence.
Moreno's family remembers him as a hardworking individual who assisted his father with masonry work. They are now seeking justice and urging witnesses to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation. The Fort Worth Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting to prevent such tragedies in the future.
