On May 14, 2024, 32-year-old Lee Jordan Murrow of Waco, Texas, was reported missing by the Bellmead Police Department. Three days later, on May 17, his body was discovered floating in the Brazos River near Cameron Park in Waco. An autopsy revealed that Murrow had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
The investigation led to the arrest of two individuals: 39-year-old Kimisha Denise Mathis and 39-year-old Armando Casiano Jr.
According to arrest affidavits, Mathis, under Casiano's direction, lured Murrow out of his residence by sending him electronic messages. When Murrow entered Mathis's vehicle, Casiano, who had been hiding in the trunk armed with a handgun, confronted him. A physical altercation ensued, during which Murrow was fatally shot.
Following the shooting, Mathis and Casiano initially disposed of Murrow's body in a wooded area near the 4400 block of Pecan Lane in Bellmead. They later returned, placed his body in the trunk of the vehicle, and transported it to the Brazos River, where they dumped it into the water. Both suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Mathis was apprehended on June 14, 2024, and held on a bond of $800,000, while Casiano was arrested on June 22, 2024, near the U.S.-Mexico border and held on a bond of $1,000,000.
In August 2024, a McLennan County Grand Jury indicted both Mathis and Casiano for the murder of Murrow. Casiano faced an additional indictment for aggravated assault. As of December 2024, both suspects remain in custody, awaiting trial. Murrow's family and friends continue to mourn his loss, commemorating his life with memorial events, including a memorial ride held on what would have been his 33rd birthday.
