On May 31, 2024, Houston police responded to a shooting at a residence on East 36th Street in the Independence Heights neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Myanda Mosha Thomas unresponsive in a bedroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Thomas had been involved in a physical altercation with her boyfriend, 36-year-old Antonio Cornell Williams, which escalated to the
fatal shooting. Following the incident, Williams fled the scene on a bicycle, taking the couple's 2-year-old child with him. Officers quickly disseminated his description, and he was located a short distance away. As police approached, Williams inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The child was unharmed and taken into protective custody.
Williams was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Subsequently, he was charged with murder in the 174th State District Court for the death of Thomas. At the time of the incident, Williams had a history of violent offenses, including a prior murder charge in Fort Bend County and multiple felony convictions. He had recently been released on bond after serving a prison sentence for a weapons charge.
