On May 31, 2024, Houston police responded to a shooting at a residence on East 36th Street in the Independence Heights neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Myanda Mosha Thomas unresponsive in a bedroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.
